Recipe for a natural vegan deodorant | Zero waste

Recipe for a natural vegan deodorant | Zero waste

Finding a natural deodorant that works well isn’t such an easy task. I tested quite a few of them and the only one that met my requirements was Fit Pit. It didn’t irritate the skin, didn’t leave white marks on the clothes and it did its basic job well. Unfortunately, it’s only available in England and costs quite a lot. One day I looked at its composition and it turned out that it was made of easily available ingredients, so I found that I would try to make a similar deodorant by myself. My deodorant went almost the same and it worked just as well. Today I will share my recipe with you.

The ingredients from which Fit Pit is made are:

Purified soda, coconut oil, shea butter, arrowroot powder, sunflower oil, aloe extract and essential oils.

Unfortunately, I didn’t have an aloe extract at home, so I simplified the ingredients of my deodorant, to  coconut oil, baking soda, arrowroot powder and eucalyptus and lemon essential oil.

What will make our deodorant work?

Baking soda - evens out the body's pH and neutralizes the smell
Coconut oil - is antibacterial and cares for the skin's moisture
Arrowroot powder - thickens the deodorant and absorbs moisture (you can replace it with corn starch)
Eucalyptus and lemon essential oil - have antibacterial properties

What you will need:

(ingredients for 25 g deodorant)
Baking soda - 1,5 tbsp
Coconut oil - 3.5 tablespoons
Arrowroot powder or cornstarch - 1.5 tbsp
Eucalyptus and lemon essential oil - 15 drops

1. I start preparing the deodorant by dissolving the coconut oil in a water bath.
2. In a bowl, I mix baking soda with arrowroot powder.
3. When the oil is dissolved, I add it to a bowl with soda and arrowroot powder.
4. I add the essential oil and mix the mass thoroughly, so that there are no lumps.
5. I translate the deodorant into a jar and when it’s cooI down I put it in the fridge for a few hours.

As you can see the preparation of the deodorant isn’t difficult or take a long time. The deodorant is very efficient and although the jar is small it’s enough for a few months. If you dont want your deodorant to smell, don’t add the essential oil to it, and if you don’t like the smell of eucalyptus and lemon you can add another oil.

How to use a deodorant:

Deodorant is very efficient and its enough to apply the size of peas under each armpit. If you put too much on it, you can lightly stain your clothes. With sensitive skin, its better to wait a few minutes before applying the deodorant after shave, because it can irritate the skin.
